Buyers often ask us to describe our process, usually because a previous supplier’s stone didn’t match what was promised. We’ve been quarrying and exporting natural stone from Rajasthan since 2006, and the process hasn’t changed much in that time because it doesn’t need to — block selection, cutting, finishing and packaging each have a right way to do them. Here’s what actually happens between a block leaving the ground and a container leaving Nhava Sheva or Kandla Port.
Rajasthan is home to some of India’s most significant marble and granite quarry belts, including the Makrana and Morwad regions for marble and Jalore for granite, alongside sandstone deposits around Kota and Dholpur. Sourcing directly from these regions, rather than through intermediary traders, means we control block selection at the point of extraction rather than buying whatever lot a trader has on hand.
Once a block is selected for colour and structural integrity, it’s cut into slabs using gangsaw or block-cutter machinery depending on the required slab size — 240x120cm for gangsaw cuts, 180x60cm for cutter sizes. This stage determines the final veining pattern buyers will see, which is why block selection matters more than almost any other step in the process for marble and quartzite varieties with strong natural patterning.
Blocks are inspected for fractures, colour consistency and vein structure before cutting begins, since flaws found after cutting mean wasted slabs. We reject blocks with structural fractures at this stage rather than passing the cost on to a buyer later. This upfront inspection is the main reason quarry-direct exporters can offer more consistent lots than traders reselling stone sourced from multiple unverified quarries.
After cutting, slabs are finished to the specification ordered — polished, honed, flamed, leather or brushed — and cut down into tiles if required, in standard sizes from 60x60cm down to 30x30cm. Thickness is set at this stage too, typically 16-30mm depending on application. Every finished slab is checked again for surface defects before it moves to packing.
Finished stone is packed into foam-lined, ISPM15-compliant wooden crates and loaded by weight distribution into the container, ready for transport to Nhava Sheva or Kandla Port. Processing from order confirmation to container loading typically takes 15-25 working days, depending on order size and whether the variety is in current stock or needs fresh quarrying.
